Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2014 Ram 1500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2014 Ram 1500, we're going to be taking a look at the Darby Extend-a-truck, part number DTA944. Now, I know we've all be in that situation where we need to carry either a ladder, some wood, or whatever it may be, but it's going to be larger than our truck bed. Now, I don't feel very comfortable just having my ladder hanging out off the back of my truck with several feet hanging off without any support. But that's where our Darby Extend-a-truck is going to come in.It's going to give us that extra support for the long loads that we may need to carry, making sure everything's nice and secure. It's going to be a two piece design. The first piece is going to go into our hitch, and the outer piece is going to adjustable, so we're going to be able to set different height settings depending on where you want your load to sit. Now, the Extend-a-truck is designed to work with two inch by two inch received tubes only. more

Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2017 Ram 1500

Speaker 1: Today on our 2017 Ram 1500, we're gonna be test fitting the Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Mounted Load Extender. Part number DTA944.This extension will allow you to safely haul 12-foot ladders, long lumber, poles, rods, whatever you need in the back of your truck at a much larger length than you would normally be able to.It's gonna add 49 inches to the length of your truck bed. So, it will turn your six and a-half-foot bed into a 10 1/2 foot bed or your eight-foot bed into a 12-foot bed.The load bar extender's gonna be four-feet wide, so, you can carry multiple loads side by side. There's gonna be a location for tie down straps on each end of the bar. So, this way you can tie down your loads with bungee straps or ratchet straps. It'll fit directly into your two-inch receiver and come to the pin and clip to secure it.The load bar has an adjustable height to match your truck bed's tailgate. more

Darby Extend-A-Truck Hitch Cargo Carrier Review - 2010 Ram 1500

Today on our 2010 Ram 1500, we're going to be test fitting the Darby Extend-A-Truck Load Extender, part number DTA944. This will extend your truck vertically from 53 to 60 inches and horizontally from 13 inches to 20 inches to match up with your truck beds. This is adjustable, as I said, so this does work with a wide variety of vehicles. What you can use this for is if you we're to have, say, a roof rack installed on your truck, you can use this for ladders, lumber, water-sports carriers such as kayaks or canoes, anything you can think of. It also comes with the pins and clips to keep them in place, as well as a red tag or flag, excuse me, to put on the end of your load to let them know that it is an extended load. We have it in the upright position right now, and I would like to point out on the side here, we do have these adjustable points to work out with different vehicles. Let's go ahead and take a couple measurements real quick. With it in the upright position, measuring from the edge of our bumper out, we've added about 9 inches to the rear of the vehicle when it's in this position. more

Now in this position, it's perfect for hauling ladders, conduit pipes and other things like that. If you had a roof rack system on your truck, you can extend this higher because there are different settings you can use to match up with those heights as well. Next I'm going to go ahead and give you a quick measurement here to give you an idea how much it rises up from this point at the shank. more

Let's go ahead and place it into the 2 inch receiver that we have here today. Now, if you have a ladder rack, or a headache rack on your vehicle, and you'd like to place something longer in the bed of your truck, and keep the inside of your bed open, this would be a perfect opportunity to do so, whether that be lumber, or anything else. Let's go ahead and line up our pinholes, and place in our hitch pin and clip. Now with our hitch pin and clip inserted you will see that this is adjustable at the top to meet multiple different heights depending on your cab and your headache rack, or ladder rack height. Simply pull the pin, lift and lower it to meet up with the pin holes. more
